The Coffein Compagnie is your expert partner for decaffeinating green coffee and for producing natural caffeine. We trade in decaffeinated and partially decaffeinated coffees and, as an alternative, we provide refining services for your coffee. We are in the unique position to offer three different decaffeination processes. Our range of products include coffees certified by the Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade as well as certified organic coffees. We can provide kosher, halal, and IFS certifications for coffees refined in our facilities. In addition, the scope of our services includes food analytics and quality controls, as well as logistical concepts tailored to meet your needs.

Blind taste tests have confirmed that the differences can only be detected by those with very experienced palates. Our coffee tasters and Q Graders ensure daily the organoleptic quality by cupping all incoming and refined coffees.

1931

Company foundation

Dr. Erich Scheele founded the Coffein Compagnie. Producing the best cup of coffee is what he did strive for.

1960s

Expansion in Europe

An increasing demand for decaffeinated coffee in Europe led to exports into neighboring countries.

1970s

Expansion into the USA

The first shipments of decaffeinated green coffee beans were sent to the USA. Specialty coffees and coffee shops became increasingly popular, creating more demand for decaffeinated coffee. This was a very important development for the Coffein Compagnie.

1980s

Introduction of the ethyl acetate (EA) decaffeination process

With the possibility to decaffeinate coffee with ethyl acetate, the Coffein Compagnie added a second process that was very well received by customers. It was clear almost immediately that an expansion in capacity was needed.

1990s

Growth of the Coffein Compagnie

The continuous success in exports of decaffeinated coffee, set the base for Coffein Compagnie to become the global leader in coffee decaffeination.

2000s

Modernization and development of the “All-in-One-Strategy“

The development of the head quarter in Bremen and the reduction of the carbon footprint are the main targets in the early 2000s. A strategic alliance with J. Müller Weser logistics sets base for a All-in-One-concept. Green coffee trading and optimized ogistic  services get integrated to a just in time-doorstep-delivery for decaffeinated coffee products. With the aquisition of Compañía Nacional del Café (CNC) into the company, the Coffein Compagnie expands its range of products with fine green coffee from Colombia.

2010s

Global development

Coffein Compagnie expanded its core business with two additional production sites, a sales presence in the USA, and initial activities in the Asian market. The new production sites created development opportunities and offer our customers greater flexibility, and our facility in Vietnam opened up the possibility of direct supply from the second largest coffee producing country.

2015: Foundation of Coffein Compagnie USA Inc.
2018: Acquisition of Hiang Kie Industries Ltd. (HKI), Vietnam
2019: Acquisition of Stabilimento Farmaceutico Cav. G. Testa (Testa)
